Asset Deployment (Imaging/Reimaging)

For all deployments fill out the PVFA Imaging Checklist (printed copies are kept on the back bench)

Once complete take a photo of the completed sheet or scan it and attach to the ticket.

Android​

Before proceeding:

  • Ensure the device is on the latest Android OS and has been factory reset if not new
  • For multi-user devices, the user will need to request a secondary NetID. Once the secondary NetID has been created, submit a ticket to the UEM team with the device purpose so they can assign the required Intune P1 license.
  • Add or update the device status in the in the Cellular Device Enrollment Status SharePoint List

  1. Tap the screen five times during the initial setup process to launch the QR code enrollment reader Android QR Reader

  2. Scan this QR code

  3. Sign in to TAMU Visitor WiFi

  4. After connecting to the internet, the device will begin the enrollment process and display the setup screens Android Setup

  5. Depending on network speed, required updates may take several minutes to complete Android Update

  6. Have the USER sign in with NetID and NetID password

  7. The device will continue installing required updates and registering for compliance

  8. Select Install to continue installing require applications

  9. Select Set up to proceed with enrollemnt, then Sign In to continue device registration Android Register Device

The NetID field should automatically populate. The user only needs to enter their NetID password

  1. From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose Shut Down
  2. For Apple Silicon Macs, press and hold the power button on the Mac and will boot up the recovery menu
  3. Click Options, then click Continue

  5. On the side bar, select the Internal volume listed (may show as Macintosh HD) and select Erase

  6. It will ask if you’re sure you want to erase this Mac, click Erase Mac and Restart
  7. Make sure the device is connected via Ethernet as it will need to activate
  8. Once it is activated, click Exit to Recovery
  9. Select Reinstall macOS and following the onscreen instructions to reinstall the OS

Linux​

  1. Insert the bootable USB and boot the system.

  2. Click Install Linux OS. Installer Welcome Screen:

  3. Choose the desired distribution (Ubuntu or Red Hat) Distribution Selection:

  4. Install the latest version available (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04 Workstation).
    Do not install server versions.

  5. Follow the installer prompts for partition sizes:

    • For disks ≤ 500GB: Use 100% root
    • For disks > 500GB: Use 10% root or 150GB, whichever is greater. Partition Size Selection:

  6. Enable Encryption (coordinate with a full-time staff member for this step). Encryption Setup:

  7. Generate and store a password in 1Password.

  8. Enter hostname in the format PVFA-serialnumber and note the IP address. Hostname and IP Configuration:

  9. Click Yes to begin the installation process. Installation in Progress:

Post-Installation Process​

After the computer reboots:

  • Enter the encryption key when prompted.
  • Wait until the screen displays:
    "Please submit a ticket to the Linux team to finish up the provisioning process."

Post-Installation Screen:

Create a Ticket in TDX:

  • Use the template "PVFA – Linux Request" (Service Request).
  • Set yourself as the requestor.
  • Include the following details:
    • Hostname: <hostname>
    • Type: <Laptop/Desktop>
    • OS: <Ubuntu or RHEL>
    • Faculty Owner: <NETID>
    • IP Address: <recorded IP>

Windows​

Before proceeding:

  • Power down the PC (if already on).
  • Grab the imaging flash drive and plug it into the computer. If there is not an Ethernet cable attached to the computer already, plug a cable into the PC.
  1. Turn on the PC and immediately press F12 to open the boot menu.
  2. Select the USB device corresponding to the imaging flash drive and hit Enter.

  3. Click Next.
  4. When prompted to select a task sequence, choose: PVFA – Testing Win11 25H2 then click Next. Windows Task Sequence
  5. Allow for the task sequence to run to completion.
  6. Once finished, the PC will restart and display the Windows login screen.

Defails about manually configuring Windows and joining to AD/MECM.

Post-imaging​

  1. Run the SetWindowsCollection.cmd file located at our software.pvfa.tamu.edu\installers\windows folder
  2. Run all the Actions in the Configuration Manager application in the control panel
